Tour Oahu by Air – Oahu, Hawaii

island.jpgTour Oahu by Air – Oahu, Hawaii

When you are visiting the island of Oahu you may want to take the opportunity to see the island from the eyes of the birds.  Whether you choose to take an airplane tour or a helicopter tour you will get a view of the island that those on the ground will envy.  You will soar above the cliffs; see the waterfalls as you can only see them from the air.  You will fly over Pearl Harbor and get a firsthand look Pearl Harbor.jpgat how the Japanese saw it when they were flying in to bomb the shipyard.

If you take the plane instead of the helicopter you will probably fly over the Big Island and get a view of the Hamakua Coast line with their waterfalls.  You will be able to see the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the Sulphur stream Vents and the Thurston Lava Tube.  Look at the dramatic cliffs that form the islands borders.

Int he helicopter you will be able to look down on Waikiki, Diamond Head, the cone is a United states State Monument, and Hanauma Bay.  You will also be able to see Keehi Lagoon and Aloha Tower.  You will fly over Magic Island.

One of the advantages of taking a bird’s eye view of the islands is that it helps you to determine where you want to go back to after the tour and spend some time.  It’s a quick way to get a great overview of what is available on the islands.

Hamakua Coast.jpgMaybe you will want to go see the marine sanctuary and popular snorkel spot at Hanauma Bay.  Maybe you are a "Jurassic Park" fan and want to go to the valley where a dozen major motion pictures have been filmed.

As you fly over Oahu’s Central Plain you will see the world’s largest agricultural maze at the Dole Pineapple Plantation and the "birthing stones" of Hawaiian royalty.

You may want to take a sea plane out instead of a standard fixed wing or a helicopter.  These are available too, just think how you will take off and land on the water.  Not very often will you have the opportunity to do this while on vacation.

Maybe you are a truly brave soul and want to take a ride in a glider plane.  You can do this on Oahu too.  The north shore is where the glider center is so you can be lifted to the heights high above Oahu via a tethered plane and then released to sail silently through the sky.

You will be able to see things such as the Polynesian Cultural Center, the Mormon temple and BYU Hawaii Campus, the old Kahuku Sugar Mill, the Windmill Farm and more as you take a 60 minute airplane ride.

There are so many options and so many different time frames and costs that all you need to do is spend a little while finding out just which way you want to fly over the island and then book your flight.  You will be glad you spent the money to see the island in this manner.
