On the beautiful island of Kauai there are 9 golf courses to test your skills.  The level of challenge runs from the charming Kakuiolono’s 9 hole course to the resort courses that have hosted LPGA events and PGA of America’s Grand Slam of Golf.

There are three major resorts dominating the Kauai golfscape.  Princeville offers 45 holds at two locations, Prince & Makai with their spectacular north shore views.  Kauai Lagoons which has 36 holes (Kiele & Mokihana) which are close to the Lihue airport and the 18 hole Poipu Bay Resort layout along Kauai’s southern coastline.  There are independent daily fee courses in Poipu at Kiahuna Golf Course and Lihue at the Puakea Golf Course.

The Kauai Lagoons – Kiele Course on the Big Island is one of Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s classic Hawaii courses with some 75 bunkers and water features that will challenge your skills.  With one of the water features being 4 times the size of the putting surface itself you will need to be truly talented to lay the ball up there without going in the water.  There is a par 5 which doglegs left, 502 yards long with the surf of Anaehoomalu Bay along the far right side of the fairway and around two sides of the green.  Truly a great course for the skilled golfer.

The Mokihana course is another resort course.  This one is 18 holes and a Par 72.  There are numerous bunkers and putt the undulating greens of this Scottish-style, rolling links course.  This is a Jack Nicklaus layout that will challenge you with its bunkers and legging fairways.

Kukuiolono is a nine hole course and is probably one of Kauai’s best kept golfing secrets.  This course has limited hazards, generous fairways and is a great course for beginner golfers.

Poipu Bay Golf Course hosted the PGA of America’s Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 to 2006.  It is a 210 acres setting on the south coast of Kauai.  The course is 18 holes with a Par 72.

Princeville Makai Course – Ocean/Lakes Coruse is made up of 3 9 hole courses names Woods, Lake and Ocean.  Makai was the first resort course on the island and one of only two 27 hole layouts in Hawaii.  This is another Robert Trent Jones Jr. course.  It has 27 holes and is a Par 72.

Puakea Golf Course is the newest course on the island.  An 18 hole Par 72 this course is set at the foot of scenic Haupu Ridge where much of the film Jurassic Park was shot.

Wailua Golf Course is a municipal course and host to three National Amateur championships in its history.  It is an 18 hole course with a Par 72.

When you are taking your Hawaiian vacation be sure to bring your clubs, the weather and views will make you glad you did.
