You can also visit the Jagger Museum and United States Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory that are both found on the northwest rim of Kilauea’s caldera. Taking a trip here can be very educational and fun since you could learn about how volcanoes in Hawaii were formed.
You may also want to drive down the Chain of Craters Road, which is another scenic drive running for 18 miles that descends 3,700 feet to sea level. You can pass by a lot of scenic lookouts in which you could stop over and take some pictures.
There area also a number of side roads along the road that you could explore along with trails that you could hike. One interesting spot you can go to is the Thurston Lava Tube, which is a cave that’s formed by lava located on the Iki pit crater of Kilauea amongst Kilauea Volcano’s tropical rainforest.
